MUD N CLAYS : Types and benefits

Lewis Litt (Suits) famously says ‘Donna, let go mudding’.
I love clay and mud masks. Though the difference between is not much and in my opinion it is one and the same thing.
Here I am going to talk all about different types of clays and muds that have so many benefitting ingredients in them that helps to treat the skin and make it glow.
Basically clays are recommended for getting rid of that excessive oil from the skin that causes all sorts of skin problems like acne, scars, rashes, bacterial growth etc. All these clays are related in terms of their base however some of them may vary in type of results that we draw out from their usage.

Kaolin: It is a naturally occurring clay substance mostly found in soils that have developed from the chemical weathering of rocks in hot, moist climates. A good example of such a climate is the tropical rain forest. It is also called China clay, White clay, White Cosmetic clay, Hydrated Aluminum Silicate, Kaolinite clay amongst other names. Its is very white kind of clay.
Kaolin clay is best for those of you who have sensitive skin and find yourself with rashes due to the synthetic chemicals found in more popular skin care products.
If you are looking for a way to avoid redness and skin irritation, your best bet is to try out kaolin clay. It will absorb all of the excess oil, dirt, and dead skin cells leaving your skin soft and smooth.
After adding water it becomes a clay-like mixture that you can safely apply to your face and easily wash off twenty minutes later.

Bentonite: While Kaolin clay is pure white in color the bentonite is slightly darker in color than it. Bentonite clay has a high concentration of minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and silica and there are several type of bentonite clays, each named after its dominant element. It is an absorbing kind of clay just like the former one. It is useful for face as well as the hair. It acts as detoxifier and attracts out the product build up from the scalp. This should be used as the hair mask for the one’s with oily hair type, as it dries up and soaks up the oils and toxins from your hair.

Fuller’s earth: This is a mustard colored clay and its presence in Indian markets can be found for a very longs times. You can say like 30 to 40 years back and even more than that. It just like the kaolin and bentonite clay have absorbing capabilities. The color varies depending on the different elements that are present in it. It helps in removing the extra sebum from the face and thus helps battling acne problems. It just like any other clay have multiple uses. It is the best clay on the cost side.

Rhassoul: Rhassoul clay originates in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. It has been used from a long time by the Moroccan women for washing their hair. It gets its name from Arabic word which means washing. This clay has also been used from times as a mask for face, body and hair. Contrary to the bentonite clay this has moisturizing effects on the hair. So I would recommend a hair mask of the clay for the people with dry to normal hair. It also removes toxins from your hair and help in restoring the natural to your hair. It works great as face mask as well. It however is the priciest of all the clays.
